A pair of former Indiana Nitro players received all-conference honors in May.

In his third season at Franklin College, catcher Jackson Freed (Westfield) was named to the All-Heartland Athletic Conference Association’s second team.

In 32 games, Feed batted .328, the second-best average among Franklin regulars, while collecting 12 doubles and hitting a home run. Freed added 20 RBI at the plate, while throwing out 11 runners on the bases in 29 stolen bases attempts against. Freed helped Franklin to a 21-17 overall record and 13-12 mark in the HCAC, as the Grizzlies finished fifth in the conference.

Just a bit to the southwest of Franklin over in Bloomington, another Nitro had a banner year.

Helping the Indiana Hoosiers to a fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in five years, first baseman Matt Gorski (Hamilton Southeastern) was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.

Since entering Indiana’s everyday lineup in March, Gorski has shined for the Hoosiers. In 48 games, heading into the Lexington Regional, Gorski’s .289 average is third-best for Indiana. With four doubles and four home runs, Gorski has drove 21 runs, while crossing home plate 27 times himself. Gorski provides Indiana with an unusual fleet-footed first baseman, leading the Hoosiers with 13 stolen bases in 16 attempts.
